Studying in Europe: Student Schengen Visa

In order to study in any of the member states, a third-country national must obtain a student Schengen Visa, as an entry permit to the Schengen Zone.

The holder of this visa can stay in Schengen territory for a maximum of three months. Study or training courses lasting longer than six months require a Long-Stay Study Visa from the country’s embassy.

Documents required to apply for a Schengen Student Visa

The mandatory documents to apply for a Student Schengen Visa are as follows:

  • Two visa application forms
  • Two identical photos
  • Valid passport
  • A copy of your passport’s biometric data.
  • Proof of residency
  • Travel medical insurance
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Letter of acceptance to an EU University/College/School
  • Proof of academic qualifications
  • Proof of paid visa fee.

Additional documents required for Minors

    • Birth Certificate
    • An identity document signed by both parents (one document per parent).
    • Consent from both parents to allow the minor to travel.
    • In case it is relevant: a court order determining which parent is responsible for the minor.
    • Proof of occupation.
    • If employed:
      • Contract of employment
      • Workplace permission for a leave of absence
      • The income tax return
    • If self-employed:
      • Your business license.
      • Bank statement of the company for the last 6 months
      • Income Tax Return (ITR)
    • If a student:
      • A copy of the enrollment certificate
      • Letter of No Objection from the University
